Let's pretend that you are free of your own history. And I am free of my history. 'Dutchman' is Amiri Baraka's award-winning one-act play, revolving around two characters: Lula, a white woman, and Clay, a black man. It lands right at the intersectionality of race, gender and class to present an explosive exploration of white privilege, masculinity, power and sexuality.
“…a fascinating and disturbing dynamic.” – View From The Outside
"Hallucinatory and challenging, it has lost none of its power to speak to race relations today..." - Ought To Be Clowns
"As part of Black History Month, Kaitlin Argeaux has resurrected Amiri Baraka’s 1964 political allegory Dutchman...Its uncompromising assault on black integration in purely elitist white terms is still powerful." - Morning Star ***
“…a scary vision of the American nightmare.” – British Theatre Guide
"Director Kaitlin Argeaux begins to encapsulate the complexity of intersectionality and this makes for an intriguing watch...A political piece of theatre delivered satirically..." - Theatre Full Stop ****
